The Samaritans office in Cork has been officially re-opened today following the extensive flood damage caused in November.
The service was out of action completely for a week following the floods, which saw three feet of water enter their office on Coach Street.
As well as supporting individuals over the phone and by email, more than 1,200 people visit the office each year to speak with the more than 160 volunteers.
While the phone and email service was restored after a week, the call-in service had to be stopped while repair works were ongoing.
Director Pio Fenton said; “It was very distressing for us to have to close up shop, but we had put a great amount of work into getting our service back. This was the first time we were without a service since we opened in 1972.”
The office is open from 9am to 10pm seven days a week, call 1850 609090 or email info@corksamaritans.ie
